When you know you have to travel it's good to prepare beforehand. When you're flying the next day, it can get a bit overwhelming knowing that you have to sort all your stuff and begin packing just then. So start putting stuff away. It doesn't have to be in a suitcase. Just reserve a section in your cupboard or your room where you can place these things. You'll be so glad later. <br />
<br />
- Make Lists:<br />
Make lists of things you have to buy before you leave, stuff you have to get done, things you have to pack and a final check list of essential items that you can quickly look at before you step out of the house like passport, watch etc. Once you've made a list/lists stick them on your fridge or mirror or just someplace where you will surely look at them. Lists are a small thing with big benefits. <br />
<br />
- Be well rested:<br />
Although air travel is mostly restful, still you don't want be all, huh? When you are asked to show your passport. Okay here's the truth; airport makes me nauseous. Specially if I'm traveling alone. I am fine in the plane, flying, taking off and landing is actually fun. But waiting lounges and immigration lines are a nightmare to me. So I need to be alert and feeling well to stay sane. But not just for those reasons, being well rested means you can think better in times of unexpected events for instance, a flight delay. <br />
<br />
Happy Flying!<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-fv370DoLFn8/UCBCK_gfstI/AAAAAAAAAjk/cxkZL1CFToQ/s1600/IMG_0873%5B1%5D.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-fv370DoLFn8/UCBCK_gfstI/AAAAAAAAAjk/cxkZL1CFToQ/s320/IMG_0873%5B1%5D.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I have recently caught the bug of buying candles. Especially scented ones. In a closed room it is easy to not realized how stuffy it has become so I shall make good use of these. Below are the ones I have been loving.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-UMVwGG0j_Vg/UCBB_AmF4EI/AAAAAAAAAjU/rFDBvL1AFvA/s1600/IMG_1056%5B1%5D.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-UMVwGG0j_Vg/UCBB_AmF4EI/AAAAAAAAAjU/rFDBvL1AFvA/s320/IMG_1056%5B1%5D.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I have always loved Betty Crocker's French Vanilla cakes and this candle is surely something yummy as a scent.</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-vSxw9FU8q5c/UCBCFVW77FI/AAAAAAAAAjc/tCWJ1NEHS0g/s1600/IMG_1054%5B1%5D.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-vSxw9FU8q5c/UCBCFVW77FI/AAAAAAAAAjc/tCWJ1NEHS0g/s320/IMG_1054%5B1%5D.PNG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I was not too sure about this Mountain Berry scented candle but these were half the price of the Glade one so I didn't want to let go.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-CpPbQVgxn_s/UCBCWJ2J6YI/AAAAAAAAAjs/m94mkdNdgMc/s1600/IMG_0849%5B1%5D.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-CpPbQVgxn_s/UCBCWJ2J6YI/AAAAAAAAAjs/m94mkdNdgMc/s320/IMG_0849%5B1%5D.PNG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Swoon. I love cinnamon scent. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-k5lc-mIoNoo/UCBCZNTyrCI/AAAAAAAAAj0/aoM9oDKAKUs/s1600/IMG_1043%5B1%5D.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-k5lc-mIoNoo/UCBCZNTyrCI/AAAAAAAAAj0/aoM9oDKAKUs/s320/IMG_1043%5B1%5D.JPG" width="239" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Last but not least, I tried to create a home-made candle using <a href="http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/how-to-make-a-clementine-candl-1453" target="_blank">this</a> idea but didn't cut off the wick right so I cheated and put a small candle in there. Still I think it looks very pretty at least.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
What are your favorite scented candles?</div>

The shampoo is still missing here but I don't really want to buy those small bottles. Thinking of getting a full size instead. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
I've had these small nail glitter pots for a while now and I couldn't exactly figure out how to get the glitter out and on my nails. I mean, they're not stickers or anything and using a toothpick to get them on my nails feels pretty tiring and messy.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-4NbmmvI3jic/UCA0r3hBBzI/AAAAAAAAAik/xo1f2xSv1IY/s1600/IMG_1063%5B1%5D.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-4NbmmvI3jic/UCA0r3hBBzI/AAAAAAAAAik/xo1f2xSv1IY/s200/IMG_1063%5B1%5D.JPG" width="200" /></a></div>
<br />
Then I had an idea. I got this old lip gloss wand which had dried up and I dipped it in some clear nail varnish. Nothing fancy, a low quality of clear nail varnish. Next, I dipped the wand in purple glitter pot and glitter stuck onto the wand. I applied this over a coat of MUA nail varnish in shade 3.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-HiTuKGtJxvU/UCA0jRxGomI/AAAAAAAAAic/kiSfXx8Dbzc/s1600/IMG_1062%5B1%5D.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-HiTuKGtJxvU/UCA0jRxGomI/AAAAAAAAAic/kiSfXx8Dbzc/s200/IMG_1062%5B1%5D.JPG" style="cursor: move;" width="200" /></a></div>
I must say applying it this way helped me have more control over where I put the glitter and how much of it I got on my nail. I am pleased with the results and I finally know how to make my nails sparkle using plain glitter.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-rr4bZhWFSUI/UCAw_JXOiEI/AAAAAAAAAiM/pTgKLFqCzAg/s1600/IMG_0927%5B1%5D.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-rr4bZhWFSUI/UCAw_JXOiEI/AAAAAAAAAiM/pTgKLFqCzAg/s320/IMG_0927%5B1%5D.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br /></div>Shezahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16267350329877917911noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3360342739958793823.post-25483780258925995262011-06-25T23:33:00.000+05:002011-06-25T23:33:41.145+05:00More Crochet<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">I've been working at my crochet lately and I made a bunch of more <a href="http://youtu.be/xYIe3bTOkzk">these</a> round pouches.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-NZwH_4OCMPE/TgYnXY26GWI/AAAAAAAAAds/UT_cDRVHQxo/s1600/180620112168.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-NZwH_4OCMPE/TgYnXY26GWI/AAAAAAAAAds/UT_cDRVHQxo/s320/180620112168.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><br />
This one was requested by my sister. She made the flower on top by herself.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-uj1TSdf-jJk/TgYne-2YbRI/AAAAAAAAAdw/zAARtIOLf_c/s1600/230620112210.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-uj1TSdf-jJk/TgYne-2YbRI/AAAAAAAAAdw/zAARtIOLf_c/s320/230620112210.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><br />
Now that I'm finally getting better at crocheting stuff, I decided to try <a href="http://youtu.be/5a81DQmjbRc">this</a> crochet basket too. It took me almost a day but it's done at last. (I didn't make the handle for it)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-h5mziWY3B9c/TgYm_4BjHWI/AAAAAAAAAdg/1w3s__VPk28/s1600/250620112236.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-h5mziWY3B9c/TgYm_4BjHWI/AAAAAAAAAdg/1w3s__VPk28/s320/250620112236.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
It's actually quite big and I'm thinking it will be useful to keep on the dresser for random things such as hair ties and clips perhaps.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ZshzdzvGU98/TgYnH1pp2hI/AAAAAAAAAdk/caKSiNJZ0Yk/s1600/250620112239.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ZshzdzvGU98/TgYnH1pp2hI/AAAAAAAAAdk/caKSiNJZ0Yk/s320/250620112239.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><br />
The angry birds seem to find it real cozy. :)<br />
<br />

Quran 14:7</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">I have a roof over my head, warm food at my table and a family that cares around me. This is something that many people around the world crave for right now. I am, indeed, very lucky. But oh, how easy it is to forget it and whine and complain. Instead of looking at what we have, we only see what we don't have. I want to sit back and appreciate all that I have in my life right now and be thankful for it. </div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">I am blessed to be able to go for Umrah this year as well. So many people asked me to pray for them. Some asked for something in particular and some in general terms. I don't know how many of my prayers will get accepted but I remembered each and every person. Usually, I can think of a billion things I'd want to wish for but when I get there, all my wishes seem so insignificant. Nothing really matters. I end up not asking for anything at all but just guidance and forgiveness.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://angrybirdee.tumblr.com/photo/1280/5300742488/1/tumblr_lkvhb7YEM21qbutrr" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://angrybirdee.tumblr.com/photo/1280/5300742488/1/tumblr_lkvhb7YEM21qbutrr" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;"> In Makkah and Madina, it's a whole new world. The residents are usually guiding and helpful. The only concern is getting to prayers on time. There seem to be no worldly burdens. The sacred water, Ab-e-Zamzam keeps us refreshed.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">I find it very amusing to watch the little children around. I got a cut on my foot and had to use a band-aid for it. This little girl looked at my foot twice as she went by and the look on her face was SO worried. It was the cutest thing ever. My Dad says I should have said to her, "a pigeon bit me". (hehe)</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">The beginning of May has not been an easy one for our family. I'm glad we got the chance to go to for Umrah and pray at this tough time. I know this tough time won't last but it's much more comforting to go and pray at such spiritually charged places. We return with high hopes and greater trust in Allah.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;"> Now that we are back home and it's been a few days, I miss being there and really hope to go back again. </div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div></div>Shezahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16267350329877917911noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3360342739958793823.post-52475464745065271482011-04-24T00:40:00.001+05:002011-04-24T00:49:19.283+05:00Beaks and Bows<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Last time, while I tried to sew a small Totoro, I watched the movie. It made me realize that I can watch an animated movie while I sew. Why animated? Because I can just glance at it every now and then and just listen to it while working and still know what's going on. Makes sewing more fun for me. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I had made the blue bird and the yellow bird right after I made the red one. But I wanted to make the black one before I put them all on my blog. So today while I made the black bird, I watched Howl's Moving Castle. I don't have a sewing machine yet so I hand-stitch each bird. I seem to have a hard time sewing on their beaks. It takes about five tries to get them okay looking. But they're worth it. Here they all are:</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-hfozybdm0p0/TbMgQ8f4J1I/AAAAAAAAAb4/M1NYTg0GD8w/s1600/23042011121.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-hfozybdm0p0/TbMgQ8f4J1I/AAAAAAAAAb4/M1NYTg0GD8w/s400/23042011121.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The black bomb bird is my favorite! I am so so thankful to Care's <a href="http://obsessivelystitching.blogspot.com/2010/12/angry-birds-plush.html">blog</a> where I got all the patterns from.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The other thing I've been working with felt making little bow hair clips. I got a pack of black hair clips for very cheap and the good thing about them is that the top black part actually comes off from the clip. I made little bows with felt and used glue to put them on the black top. Left them one day to dry and viola! pretty little clips all ready! </div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-9Q5AlVY1NsM/TbMqCPqzW5I/AAAAAAAAAb8/EpLqqIe1dr8/s1600/282760375.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-9Q5AlVY1NsM/TbMqCPqzW5I/AAAAAAAAAb8/EpLqqIe1dr8/s320/282760375.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
I didn't really think it necessary to cover the black part with felt because my hair is black and when I put it on, only the bow shows. I don't know how long they'll stay with glue. Maybe I should have sewn them on. I guess I will if they start to come off. Right now, I'm happy with they way they are.<br />
<br />
Might make more birds and bows with the felt I have left. Perhaps get better at sewing beaks on? :)</div>Shezahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16267350329877917911noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3360342739958793823.post-18804035078450475192011-04-19T22:02:00.004+05:002011-04-19T22:07:52.725+05:00My Neighbor Totoro<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">Today I FELT like working with felt. (heh) I've seen Totoro plush around the web so I decided to try and make one. I also watched the movie today. My Neighbor Totoro is a 1988 Japanese animated movie that has been dubbed in English by Fox and then by Disney. I think the one I watched was the Disney version. Anyway, while I watched I started putting together this little Totoro figure. Later, I added a keyring to it.<br />

I think it turned out cute :) Have been working on more angry birds too. Will blog them once they're all done! </div>Shezahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16267350329877917911noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3360342739958793823.post-81374820151351853852011-04-12T00:22:00.001+05:002011-04-12T01:10:12.968+05:00Small Crochet Pouch<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">I've been practicing my crochet for the past couple days. And I've finally managed to make something that is actually of some use. I have learnt single crochet and discovered that many things can be made with it. I do plan on learning other stitches but for now, I'm having so much fun trying out this. So <a href="http://youtu.be/xYIe3bTOkzk">this little pouch</a> I made today took me about three hours. And I'm very happy with the results.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-W262UJf2mC8/TaNSm1G9ekI/AAAAAAAAAbk/I3q5LsRITW0/s1600/pouchy.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="305" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-W262UJf2mC8/TaNSm1G9ekI/AAAAAAAAAbk/I3q5LsRITW0/s320/pouchy.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
I think this one is going to go to my little cousin <a href="http://luqynoorman.blogspot.com/">Nozzles</a> (as she likes to call herself. :))<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-fdx0tKtWNyw/TaNTL9ux-gI/AAAAAAAAAbo/QSMwDb595Po/s1600/pouchy2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-fdx0tKtWNyw/TaNTL9ux-gI/AAAAAAAAAbo/QSMwDb595Po/s320/pouchy2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />

I've always been inspired by friends who crochet and really wanted to learn. I'm pleased to announce that I finally found one. For some reason, the few places I have been to in Saudi Arabia, they have just one size aluminium hook, which is 4.0 mm (a size G i think) Moreover, the shopkeepers are really not in the mood to help out or guide one. I managed to get some yarn too but didn't realize that I'd need a needle too. </div><div><br />
</div><div>So anyway, right now I'm a very basic beginner, practicing my simple crochet. Have had to open it and start over countless times but I can tell I'm improving with practice. There are some awesome 'Youtubers' out there who make the learning process so much easier. Yesterday I made this rosette with pink yarn. </div><div><br />

</div><div>Not a bad start I think. </div><br />

But from what I hear she was highly creative at sewing. She'd make these drawstring pouches and give them to everyone. Recently I learnt how to make them too.<br />
<div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-z52MbxZ8NDg/TXfF_uRCD7I/AAAAAAAAAZE/zcoGtqvO86Y/s1600/09032011064.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-z52MbxZ8NDg/TXfF_uRCD7I/AAAAAAAAAZE/zcoGtqvO86Y/s320/09032011064.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div><br />
</div><div>Here I'm going to show you how I make the drawstring pouch above. It's fairly simple. I'm not an expert at sewing and I'm not taking any classes. My stitches are not very neat since I'm still practicing and trying to learn on my own. I'm putting up the process of making a drawstring pouch here for people like me who are looking for easy projects that they can start with. You can, of course, try variations of the design shown here. Do let me know what you come up with! </div><div><br />
</div><div>The things you are going to need are:</div><div><br />
</div><div><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-RZlttyt3oEs/TXfF0xIY0-I/AAAAAAAAAZA/t61xez535HY/s1600/09032011028.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-RZlttyt3oEs/TXfF0xIY0-I/AAAAAAAAAZA/t61xez535HY/s320/09032011028.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"></div><div>- Felt</div><div>- Ribbon</div><div>- Thread</div><div>- Needle</div><div>- Scissors</div><div>- A safety pin</div><br />
<div><br />
</div></div><div><br />
</div><div><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-5-csEAXvpaQ/TXfGIGOxEoI/AAAAAAAAAZI/6UbCiSTaDLQ/s1600/09032011030.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-5-csEAXvpaQ/TXfGIGOxEoI/AAAAAAAAAZI/6UbCiSTaDLQ/s320/09032011030.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div><br />
</div><div>To make the bow, first cut a small rectangle. (It should be the size you want your bow to be) I had a pink bow so my rectangle is out of the pink felt. </div><div><br />
</div><div><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-P8yC-cqniLY/TXfGPthDEiI/AAAAAAAAAZM/uaVJ80s10Gg/s1600/09032011031.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-P8yC-cqniLY/TXfGPthDEiI/AAAAAAAAAZM/uaVJ80s10Gg/s320/09032011031.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div><br />
</div><div>Now thread your needle and start at the very middle of your rectangle. </div><div><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-DxXZzSia_JE/TXfGXfrYZuI/AAAAAAAAAZQ/qTkz-5hdE4w/s1600/09032011032.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-DxXZzSia_JE/TXfGXfrYZuI/AAAAAAAAAZQ/qTkz-5hdE4w/s320/09032011032.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div><br />
</div><div>Start sewing in a line in the middle.</div><div><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-fxAE08pbGRE/TXfGcq0eEYI/AAAAAAAAAZU/I6_A8c7x3IE/s1600/09032011033.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-fxAE08pbGRE/TXfGcq0eEYI/AAAAAAAAAZU/I6_A8c7x3IE/s320/09032011033.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div><br />
</div><div>When you pull at the thread, the rectangle will shape itself in a bow.</div><div><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-6YX_YO0prAw/TXfGj5hDJII/AAAAAAAAAZY/MZwHGxzRhA8/s1600/09032011035.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-6YX_YO0prAw/TXfGj5hDJII/AAAAAAAAAZY/MZwHGxzRhA8/s320/09032011035.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div><br />
</div><div>Pull the thread and tie the thread in a knot. Now cut off the excess. </div><div><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-9HHHHZ6p0o4/TXfGo62WZAI/AAAAAAAAAZc/iE6t3aha26E/s1600/09032011040.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-9HHHHZ6p0o4/TXfGo62WZAI/AAAAAAAAAZc/iE6t3aha26E/s320/09032011040.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><div><br />
</div><div>Now to begin the pouch, cut a piece of felt that is the size of two squares. You could cut two squares if you want. I think this way I don't need to sew the base of the pouch. </div><div><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-D-AY7iikejM/TXfGt1Iwg9I/AAAAAAAAAZg/X_dvhWBugMU/s1600/09032011042.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-D-AY7iikejM/TXfGt1Iwg9I/AAAAAAAAAZg/X_dvhWBugMU/s320/09032011042.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div><br />
</div><div>When folded, this is what the felt piece looks like. </div><div><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-qdHyRs1s1Uc/TXfG0bFh7sI/AAAAAAAAAZk/z89ETkK6k54/s1600/09032011043.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-qdHyRs1s1Uc/TXfG0bFh7sI/AAAAAAAAAZk/z89ETkK6k54/s320/09032011043.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div><br />
</div><div>Now sew on the bow somewhere on the lower side of the square.</div><div><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-UQuROEBqGhw/TXfG6hFj4QI/AAAAAAAAAZo/fK6spF_Z594/s1600/09032011044.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-UQuROEBqGhw/TXfG6hFj4QI/AAAAAAAAAZo/fK6spF_Z594/s320/09032011044.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div><br />
</div><div>As you can see, I have sewn a little piece of felt in the middle of the bow to give it a cleaner look. </div><div><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-OziZBtQCkbI/TXfHD1S9OcI/AAAAAAAAAZs/AE-arGGKDmo/s1600/09032011046.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-OziZBtQCkbI/TXfHD1S9OcI/AAAAAAAAAZs/AE-arGGKDmo/s320/09032011046.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><div><br />
</div><div>Now flip it over and pin down small portions of the felt from both top and bottom. This is going to be the place where the string is going to pass so you want it such that after you sew it down, there is room for the ribbon to go through.</div><div><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-PUxnvuX8zRI/TXfHK-WXHlI/AAAAAAAAAZw/K_QXe1BAs84/s1600/09032011047.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-PUxnvuX8zRI/TXfHK-WXHlI/AAAAAAAAAZw/K_QXe1BAs84/s320/09032011047.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div><br />
</div><div>Start sewing in a straight line. I think that this part should be sewn strongly as the drawstring will be pulled through it many times. </div><div><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-fH_K1FT6WNk/TXfHb6qcwqI/AAAAAAAAAZ8/nVXiYe0opNM/s1600/09032011050.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-fH_K1FT6WNk/TXfHb6qcwqI/AAAAAAAAAZ8/nVXiYe0opNM/s320/09032011050.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><div><br />
</div><div>This is what it looks like when both sides have been done. (Your stitches might be a bit more neat, mine aren't that much)</div><div><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-aBoF2rVkxXM/TXfHO-zmVYI/AAAAAAAAAZ0/pznYNR0sPOI/s1600/09032011048.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-aBoF2rVkxXM/TXfHO-zmVYI/AAAAAAAAAZ0/pznYNR0sPOI/s320/09032011048.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><div><br />
</div><div>Now you have made two "tunnels" for the ribbon to pass.</div><div><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-K0Qxrp0adqA/TXfHVTqCsXI/AAAAAAAAAZ4/4HgeJk77Mew/s1600/09032011049.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-K0Qxrp0adqA/TXfHVTqCsXI/AAAAAAAAAZ4/4HgeJk77Mew/s320/09032011049.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><div><br />
</div><div>This is what the front looks like now. </div><div><br />

</div><div>Keeping the piece of felt in the same place (ribbon side up), fold it back into a square. The bow is now hidden inside. </div><div><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-VgdGSzBzGKg/TXfHoM_7pkI/AAAAAAAAAaE/vwAin1F7QGQ/s1600/09032011052.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-VgdGSzBzGKg/TXfHoM_7pkI/AAAAAAAAAaE/vwAin1F7QGQ/s320/09032011052.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><div><br />
</div><div>Now sew both sides, right and left. Basically, we're sewing on this side so that when we turn it inside out, the seams will be hidden. </div><div><br />

</div><div>This is what it looks like when I turn it inside out after sewing. </div><div><br />

</div><div>The seams of the side are not seen from this side. For the top, you might want to use a matching thread, mine doesn't match but I think pink looked fine.</div><div><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-ebS3tEA3S64/TXfH7OXUZ9I/AAAAAAAAAaQ/MplbYzrx2iA/s1600/09032011055.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-ebS3tEA3S64/TXfH7OXUZ9I/AAAAAAAAAaQ/MplbYzrx2iA/s320/09032011055.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div><br />
</div><div>You will need two pieces of ribbon. Each piece should be double the horizontal length of the pouch. Maybe a little more if you like.</div><div><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-zIGr5-tUwQk/TXfIBdBi9FI/AAAAAAAAAaU/xpYqbX-PNGQ/s1600/09032011056.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-zIGr5-tUwQk/TXfIBdBi9FI/AAAAAAAAAaU/xpYqbX-PNGQ/s320/09032011056.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div><br />
</div><div>Attach a small safety pin to the ribbon.</div><div><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-fiQRCyq8VdM/TXfIIm3Vm8I/AAAAAAAAAaY/3z_Bx2eKvF8/s1600/09032011057.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-fiQRCyq8VdM/TXfIIm3Vm8I/AAAAAAAAAaY/3z_Bx2eKvF8/s320/09032011057.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div><br />
</div><div>The safety pin will make it easier to pass the ribbon through the "tunnel".</div><div><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-bZL1Y58ZUPo/TXfIN_J8EwI/AAAAAAAAAac/2Xz-WKhsd7s/s1600/09032011058.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-bZL1Y58ZUPo/TXfIN_J8EwI/AAAAAAAAAac/2Xz-WKhsd7s/s320/09032011058.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div><br />
</div><div>Pass it in a complete circle and you will have something like this.</div><div><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-aVESgS1b0HY/TXfIUs6YutI/AAAAAAAAAag/zCif9RezVN0/s1600/09032011059.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-aVESgS1b0HY/TXfIUs6YutI/AAAAAAAAAag/zCif9RezVN0/s320/09032011059.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div><br />
</div><div>Tie a double knot to secure it. Now attach the safety pin to the other ribbon. You will pass it through the circle the same way but this time you will start at the left side. </div><div><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-vu0WXlx_-uI/TXfIa9ZRryI/AAAAAAAAAak/C8N8brv1kQY/s1600/09032011060.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-vu0WXlx_-uI/TXfIa9ZRryI/AAAAAAAAAak/C8N8brv1kQY/s320/09032011060.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div><br />
</div><div>Tie both ends with double knots. </div><div><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-4faFn09DtRA/TXfIhN7x_-I/AAAAAAAAAao/2WDAHeV_9hU/s1600/09032011062.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-4faFn09DtRA/TXfIhN7x_-I/AAAAAAAAAao/2WDAHeV_9hU/s320/09032011062.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div><br />
</div><div>If you pull at the strings knots in opposite directions, the bag will close.</div><div><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-ax3Q6t15mQo/TXfIopAXXZI/AAAAAAAAAas/eoqR3kGv_S0/s1600/09032011063.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-ax3Q6t15mQo/TXfIopAXXZI/AAAAAAAAAas/eoqR3kGv_S0/s320/09032011063.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div><br />
</div><div>Drawstring pouch/bag is now ready! </div><div><br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-M8PrpdUwfEY/TXHYrfbFqhI/AAAAAAAAAYY/8V6dZShVfo4/s1600/eep.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-M8PrpdUwfEY/TXHYrfbFqhI/AAAAAAAAAYY/8V6dZShVfo4/s320/eep.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<br />
I started playing Angry Birds on my PC a few weeks ago. It's so thrilling to get all three stars in a level. I think why this game is so popular is that the effects of gravity pull seem so real. At first, it just seems like throwing birds around, no biggie. But then as you play on, you realize there is some thinking required. I am currently on "The Big Setup" level 7. This is one game I've found after a long time that I can play on for hours.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://a3.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/167709_500572434927_314467614927_5909159_2644340_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="218" src="http://a3.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/167709_500572434927_314467614927_5909159_2644340_n.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
The red one is the classic and basic angry bird. They're basically angry because their eggs have been stolen. I was really inspired to do more than just have their wallpaper in my phone and on my computer. So I went to the mall and got some red, black, white and yellow felt and put together a red angry bird plush. The <a href="http://obsessivelystitching.blogspot.com/2010/12/angry-birds-plush.html">tutorial</a> I followed mentioned an orange beak but I preferred the yellow one. As the bird started coming together, the whole family got excited. Mom was actually awake at night to see what the final look would be like. I got really confused as to how I'd get all the stitching from inside. Took me about two hours to figure that out. But it was worth it. Here he is!<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-EC7_F47ybEY/TXHUvDU4alI/AAAAAAAAAYU/p1SoiMLWv70/s1600/angry.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="331" src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-EC7_F47ybEY/TXHUvDU4alI/AAAAAAAAAYU/p1SoiMLWv70/s400/angry.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
<br />
Now is that an angry bird or what. ;)<br />
<br />
<br />
*Update* I just finished all the levels on my PC game. Will I try for all three stars? Maybe. :)</div>Shezahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16267350329877917911noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3360342739958793823.post-51079966631374484072011-01-30T16:25:00.001+05:002011-03-06T00:34:02.137+05:00Gajar ka Halwa (A Dessert Made With Carrots)<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">These days, we have gajar ka halwa made every other day at our home. The recipe that ma is using is actually my grandmother's. I'm going to post it here. It might not be clear enough because it's a housewife's-own-precision kinda recipe. Plus, I asked my ma to tell me and have loosely translated how she and grandmother would explain it. Like, I asked ma to tell me the ingredients first but she said, "No, you just note them as they come." =D<br />
<br />
Basically you will need 1 kg of carrots, 1 cup of sugar, about a cup of malai (cream), almonds and raisins and some ghee (clarified butter)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_VDKst7XWkyc/TUVJ_vHMfwI/AAAAAAAAAX8/21fnrVgpiOo/s1600/29012011049.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_VDKst7XWkyc/TUVJ_vHMfwI/AAAAAAAAAX8/21fnrVgpiOo/s320/29012011049.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div>Peel the top most skin of the carrots and wash them. Cut them into small cubes. Grind the carrots in a chopper until it is almost paste-like. Then add the cup of sugar. Preheat your oven and keep this mixture in the heat for about 15-20 minutes. (The temperature should be just enough to heat it well)<br />
<br />
Now, place the mixture on the stove and add the cup of malai (cream) Stir it well till you see ghee rising on the surface. (Apparently this ghee is from the malai)<br />
<br />
Fry sliced almonds and rainsins in ghee (clarified butter) and use them for garnishing. And you're done! A delicious dessert is ready! I'm gonna go have some now! </div>Shezahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16267350329877917911noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3360342739958793823.post-33356510101300548812010-09-02T22:20:00.003+05:002011-03-06T00:42:07.446+05:00Toy Story<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">What I'm about to write may sound like the story of Toy Story 3. Except that it's a true story. And I really don't have the perspective of the toys in my situation. When I went away to University, I spent five years away from home. My little rocking chair, my doll furniture, my 8th grade sewing material, all my markers and crayons (though I wasn't good at drawing ever) were all left behind. Every year when I visited home, I'd decide to sort things out. Throw out or give away many. But some toys, I held onto for a long time. Until I met a family with four kids. I decided it would be reasonable to give away my toys here because there are two boys and two girls in the family. Well obviously most of my toys are meant for girls. I was sick of the toys taking up space in our apartment and so I thought it's best for them to be played with rather than just tucked away safely here. I bet they missed being played with. I first checked to see what toys were actually give-able.<br />
In the end, I decided to give away toy duck, a baby doll, a play house and a set of Barbie sized furniture. When we went over, the kids' mom told us that they seem to like to break toys a lot. This worried me a little but then I thought, far better than being kept on my cupboard and being thrown one day without ever played with again. The kids were first unsure of how the toys were to be assembled. So I sat down with them and put everything together. Their eyes widened as they saw what the toys are supposed to look like. And how were they supposed to know, I hadn't given them any boxes or anything with the picture.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_VDKst7XWkyc/TH_c2Ny0BNI/AAAAAAAAAV4/nztJfcgibek/s1600/151343522.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_VDKst7XWkyc/TH_c2Ny0BNI/AAAAAAAAAV4/nztJfcgibek/s320/151343522.jpg" /></a></div><br />
The youngest daughter had already adopted the baby doll and when batteries were thrown in, she was delighted by the sounds of "mama, papa" and the crying and laughter when the doll's hands and feet were pressed.<br />
The playhouse came with the box and instructions on it, so the little boy started to assemble the plastic rods and though I could see he wasn't managing very well at the start, I left him to it. And eventually, he had set it all up!<br />
Their mom called us a few days later saying the kids love all the toys and since they have summer vacations, they've got now something to do even being cooped up indoors all day. When we visited next, I was pleased to see everything was still intact and the kids were having so much fun. And it feels awesome to know that something useless to me is a source of joy to someone else. ^-^</div>Shezahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16267350329877917911noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3360342739958793823.post-22504145818286763602010-08-23T20:20:00.001+05:002011-03-06T00:42:24.323+05:00Marble Cupcakes Adventure<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">I am still in the process in learning how to bake and cook and I consider myself as a beginner. I, therefore, find it simpler to bake from ready made cake mixes. But once in a while, I like to try out making something from scratch. On my good friend <a href="http://icooknbake.blogspot.com/">Mehwish's blog</a>, I found a recipe of <a href="http://icooknbake.blogspot.com/2010/08/marbled-cupcakes.html">marbled cupcakes</a>. Cupcakes are just my favorite things to bake and I vowed I would give these a try. When I read the recipe aloud to my sister, my first question was, what kind of measurement is "oz". She found it very funny for some reason. Anyway, I learnt it's actually an ounce. (You see why I call myself a beginner now?)<br />
I was just waiting to buy some butter and get started. The impatient person I am, as soon as I got butter, I wanted to make them. My friend was asleep at the time. I looked up her recipe and I started converting ounces to cups/tablespoons. I knew that sugar, flour and butter weigh differently. So I did the math and wrote on a paper what I'd be needing. Didn't have self rising flour so googled that too. And then I began. As I got the flour out and mixed it with baking powder, I somehow felt that the quantity of flour looked way too much. I asked Ammi and she told me to google it again. So after discussion with Ammi I realized just in time that I had over 4 cups of flour when I needed actually just one and a bit more. =D<br />
I messed up the kitchen and I wasn't sure how the cupcakes would turn out because of my clumsiness in measuring BUT thanks to Mehwish's accurate instructions, they turned out just perfect. \(^.^)/<br />

But somehow they're cuter than a cake. People design such wonderful things with cupcakes. So I got hold of a Betty Crocker French Vanilla Cake mix and tried them out!<br />
The french vanilla smell was so awesome while they baked.<br />

But now, I've begun again. Away from the distracted life and without the worry of assignments and projects, I think this isolation for is ideal for book reading. Recently I finished listening to an audiobook of the old classic "The Secret Garden". I had read it as a kid, in a simplified form.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_VDKst7XWkyc/TGeEuVz2EPI/AAAAAAAAAT8/gKh_fn5iclg/s1600/audiobook.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_VDKst7XWkyc/TGeEuVz2EPI/AAAAAAAAAT8/gKh_fn5iclg/s320/audiobook.jpg" /></a></div>The last audiobook I heard was "The Time Traveler's Wife". The best thing about an audiobook is that it's like someone reads for you. Though you have to concentrate on the reading. I have drifted many times away if I were not paying attention. I suppose it's because of the way my mind has been trained to shut out classroom lectures. ;)<br />
A great place to find free audiobooks is <a href="http://librivox.org/">http://librivox.org/</a><br />
Ebooks in the form of pdfs are also good. You'll find them if you look hard enough :i<br />
An audiobook or a pdf, I think, still cannot replace the pleasure of reading a book in hand.</div>Shezahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16267350329877917911noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3360342739958793823.post-32978866195471703962010-08-05T19:19:00.004+05:002011-03-06T00:45:59.797+05:00The Fifth Mountain : Answers A Lot of Whys<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Finished reading Paulo Coelho's The Fifth Mountain today and it had a lot of lessons in it. The book tries to explain why when everything seems perfect, things fall apart. And one has to believe that eventually life has a good plan in store and get on with rebuilding. Some memorable quotes from the book are: </span><br />
<ul><li><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">All life's battles teach us something, even those we lose.... you'll discover that you have defended lies, deceived yourself, or suffered for foolishness. If you're a good warrior, you will not blame yourself for this, but neither will you allow your mistakes to repeat themselves</span></li>
<li><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">There is no tragedy, only the unavoidable. Everything has its reason for being: you only need to distinguish what is temporary from what is lasting. What is temporary?... The unavoidable... and what is lasting?... The lessons of the unavoidable.</span></li>
<li><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">A child can teach an adult three things: to be happy for no reason, to always be busy with something, and to know how to demand with all his might that which he desires.</span></li>

I stuffed the body with cotton and used blanket stitch all around.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_VDKst7XWkyc/TFVgvGc_ZjI/AAAAAAAAATI/b-Qviwd2D9E/s1600/Dummy.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_VDKst7XWkyc/TFVgvGc_ZjI/AAAAAAAAATI/b-Qviwd2D9E/s320/Dummy.jpg" /></a></div><br />
Deciding the hair for Betty was tricky since I didn't have any yarn. The first hairstyle I had for her made her look like a nun. =P So finally I came up with this:<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_VDKst7XWkyc/TFVhC-sE5sI/AAAAAAAAATQ/4eu0Msp4_KU/s1600/doll.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_VDKst7XWkyc/TFVhC-sE5sI/AAAAAAAAATQ/4eu0Msp4_KU/s320/doll.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div>Sewing the little dress for her was delightful! :d<br />
<br />
I came across my barbie's furniture and Betty cooked herself a meal.....<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_VDKst7XWkyc/TFVisxu2kSI/AAAAAAAAATo/aoctFpgwr_c/s1600/table.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_VDKst7XWkyc/TFVisxu2kSI/AAAAAAAAATo/aoctFpgwr_c/s320/table.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<br />
.....and then she took a nap! ;)<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_VDKst7XWkyc/TFVhqhtmVOI/AAAAAAAAATY/T9JC_m-PTtc/s1600/Bed.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_VDKst7XWkyc/TFVhqhtmVOI/AAAAAAAAATY/T9JC_m-PTtc/s320/Bed.jpg" /></a></div><br />
Doll pattern used is from <a href="http://familyfun.go.com/crafts/felty-friends-660878/">here</a>.<br />
<br />
I also tried a little cooking today and made spicy deep fried chicken. It turned out to be awesome. :e All thanks to Tehniat's recipe <a href="http://bonvivantlifestyle.com/2010/07/deep-fried-chicken-chicken-broast/">here</a>. :)<br />

The clip I used for the bottom was a white one lying around the house that no one really ever used. I mean who needs a white clip. So here it is a red rose clip for mummy :)<br />

Not just for backache, turned out that my wisdom tooth was getting infected as well. This has caused me to spend a slow week of illness. One week. Huh. It really felt like a century! Anyway, I am pleased to say that I have regained most of my health now. Still cautious about what I eat but I feel better. I think when medicines don't suit you, you should go and ask the doctor to change them instead of putting up with the terribleness. We went to the mall yesterday and shopping therapy did me well.<br />
Dad has been with me mostly when I was in search of felt and so, he spotted a shop in the mall. This is such a relief since I was running out of felt and this mall is nearby so felt is now within easy reach. I've been obsessed with clutch bags for over an year now. I saw some pretty decent ones yesterday at the mall but didn't think any of them was worth the price. I therefore, decided to try sewing a clutch myself. Pink and orange go so well together. My stitches are still a bit untidy at places but I'm happy with the result. I didn't want my clutch to slouch so I taped two floppy disks and inserted them for back support. Wasn't sure I'd be able to make this in one day but I did. :)<br />

What's next? I can't say but I'm sure to try something else. Keep checking back! :)</div>Shezahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16267350329877917911noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3360342739958793823.post-15399186193327130872010-07-06T22:37:00.001+05:002011-03-06T00:47:24.002+05:00What To Do With Floppy Disks<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">I have more than a dozen floppy disks in the house from the time they were really in use. I would have probably thrown them away but I'm glad I didn't because<a href="http://helenismostoshare.blogspot.com/2010/05/floppy-disk-treasure-box-tutorial.html"> here</a> I found a way to make felt boxes using these useless floppies. It was just a matter of sewing pouches for each disk and then stitching them all together. I used the daisy flower pattern for the design. And its turned out to be nice enough, if I do say so myself.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_VDKst7XWkyc/TDNnPO5t_6I/AAAAAAAAAQs/REK8Gc9qP9g/s1600/boxFinal.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_VDKst7XWkyc/TDNnPO5t_6I/AAAAAAAAAQs/REK8Gc9qP9g/s320/boxFinal.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; text-align: left;">With the bad bad backache I've come down with, I'm glad I have sewing to keep me distracted during the day. Ammi has a backache as well. When I finished my box she was sitting on the sofa in front of me and she said,"Dikhao." And I tried to get up and hand it to her then I went, "Err you could just look at it from here for now." It was actually kind of funny. </div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; text-align: left;"><br />

The first two things that I sewed were simple enough. Then I decided to make an ipod cozy for my sister's ipod. I didn't want to go for the plain rectangle design so I chose star shape. I wanted to make it like a pouch as well as something she can use for viewing her ipod screen without having to take it out. It took me more time and effort than I had imagined. I also learnt and practiced the blanket stitch. Cutting out the portion of the screen and the wheel was the most difficult part. It's not perfect but my sister likes it. So here you go, here is the ipod cozy that I made with felt:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_VDKst7XWkyc/TDB6fP_M-AI/AAAAAAAAAQM/voWFHXBRTGQ/s1600/2(2).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_VDKst7XWkyc/TDB6fP_M-AI/AAAAAAAAAQM/voWFHXBRTGQ/s320/2(2).jpg" /></a><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_VDKst7XWkyc/TDB6o3Us6YI/AAAAAAAAAQU/1YjTLPXDDGM/s1600/3(1).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_VDKst7XWkyc/TDB6o3Us6YI/AAAAAAAAAQU/1YjTLPXDDGM/s320/3(1).jpg" /></a><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_VDKst7XWkyc/TDB9XSqD26I/AAAAAAAAAQk/mOsyartcznE/s1600/new(1).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_VDKst7XWkyc/TDB9XSqD26I/AAAAAAAAAQk/mOsyartcznE/s320/new(1).jpg" /></a></div><br />
